Safe, Supportive Deprescribing of Psychiatric Medications
When Might Deprescribing Be Right for You?
Some reasons people consider tapering off or stopping psychiatric medications include:
Side effects or medication fatigue
Feeling stable and symptom-free for a long period
Changes in life circumstances (pregnancy, new diagnosis, etc.)
Seeking natural or alternative treatments
Concerns about polypharmacy or long-term effects
We’ll work with you to understand the “why” behind your interest—and ensure it’s approached safely.
What We Consider Before Tapering
Deprescribing is never a one-size-fits-all process. We carefully consider your current diagnosis and whether it’s accurate, the number and severity of past episodes, how long you’ve been symptom-free, and any co-occurring medical or psychiatric conditions. We also take into account past or current substance use, the specific medication type and dosage, potential withdrawal risks, and the presence of supportive lifestyle factors like sleep, nutrition, movement, and stress management. Most importantly, we prioritize your personal goals and preferences, and we’ll work with you to decide whether it’s best to reduce, switch, or explore complementary treatment options.

What Support Looks Like
Support doesn’t end with a plan—it’s ongoing. We provide regular check-ins, track your symptoms, adjust the approach as needed, and offer education and reassurance throughout the process. We also help integrate lifestyle changes and therapy, and coordinate with your full care team when appropriate. Our approach is compassionate, flexible, and always centered on you.
How long does deprescribing take?
It depends on the medication, how long you've taken it, and your response. We take things slow and steady.
Can I try therapy or other options instead?
Yes! Many clients combine therapy, holistic support, and lifestyle improvements as part of this process.
What if I decide to stay on the medication?
That's okay, too. Our role is to support informed, safe choices—not to push one outcome.
