Jeffrey Pounds

I’ve spent more than two decades working in the mental health field, supporting people through some of the most challenging and meaningful moments in their lives. Throughout my career, I’ve worked in a wide range of settings, including hospitals, emergency departments, inpatient and intensive outpatient programs, school-based crisis assessment, and private practice. These experiences have allowed me to work with people facing complex situations and have given me a deep respect for both the challenges people carry and the resilience they often discover along the way.

I primarily work with adults and couples navigating anxiety, mood challenges such as depression, trauma, dual diagnosis (when mental health concerns and substance use occur together), and thought disorders. My goal in therapy is to create a space where people feel genuinely heard, understood, and supported, enabling them to explore what’s going on in their lives and begin moving forward at a pace that feels right for them.

My approach to therapy blends practical tools with thoughtful exploration. I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which helps people understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence each other, and how shifting unhelpful thinking patterns can lead to meaningful changes in how they feel and respond to life’s challenges. I also draw from systems theory, which looks at how relationships and life environments impact our well-being, along with existential and humanistic approaches that focus on personal meaning, self-understanding, and growth.

When working with couples, I also incorporate principles from the Gottman Method, an evidence-based approach to relationship therapy that focuses on strengthening communication, deepening understanding, and helping partners build healthier, more supportive connections. I have completed Level 1 training in Gottman Couples Therapy, which helps guide my work with couples who want to improve communication, rebuild trust, or strengthen their relationship.

I’m also trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), an evidence-based trauma treatment that can help people process difficult memories and reduce the emotional weight those experiences may still carry.

Therapy isn’t about having everything figured out, it’s about having a place where you can be honest, reflect, and work through challenges with someone in your corner. I see my role as walking alongside clients as they build clarity, resilience, and meaningful change in their lives.
